Neushwanstein Castle

While Kevan was at work, I joined a group tour via viator and took a train ride from Munich to visit Neushwanstein Castle in Bavaria, Germany.  Built by King Ludwig II, also known as the fairy-tale king, it became the inspiration for the Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland.

Winding my way through a Bavarian forest searching for Neuschwanstein Castle.

A beautiful picture taken from my train ride to Neuschwanstein Castle. A local German told me that the cows in Bavaria have the tastiest milk in all of Germany. She said that these cows are known as the happy cows and it is said that they are prettier than the women. I think she meant this as a compliment to the cows and not an insult to the women…

Dachau

While in Munich, we drove to visit Dachau, the concentration camp. The sign at the entrance to the concentration camp reads “work leads to freedom”. It was a dark and rainy day as we visited the camp, even the sky weeps for the misfortunes of those who suffered here.

The SS barracks in front of the Dachau Concentration camp, now converted to a museum. This camp was the first nazi concentration camp, founded by Heinrich Himmler, one of Adolf Hitler’s closest confidants who knew this part of Munich well and felt the Dachau area was a good location for the type of camp that he wanted to develop. Sad part of history, but one not to be forgotten.

BMW Factory

We had a fun visit to the headquarters of the Bavarian Motor Works company today! Wish we were bringing one of these roadsters back with us, but both my suitcase and my wallet are too small. My motorcycle ride with Tom Cruise was the highlight of the day.

Trying to work off the extra calories from the apple strudel at dinner with a walk around the park.

River Isar

Tranquil waters in the middle of Munich at the River Isar, which flows from its source in the Alps through Bavaria and down to the Danube. I just love the autumn colors.

After loading up on German chocolate, we were pleasantly surprised to find a shawarma restaurant right next-door, one of the tastiest meals of our trip! Can you hear the meat roasting?
