Day 1

Getting through immigration could not have been smoother. The immigration officer greeted us with a warm smile and was ready for us. This place is a well oiled machine when it comes to processing incoming tourists!

Fairmont Mayakoba

We stayed at the Fairmont Mayakoba courtesy of my husband’s firm hosting the annual conference at this beautiful location. The ride from the airport to the hotel is about 45 mins.

By the time we were all checked in, it was time to take a refreshing shower and get some room service.  There are some restaurants recommended by our bell boy, namely Tauro as the best steak restaurant and sushi, there is also a Korean bbq restaurant name Ki by the beach but we were too tired and a chilly evening at the restaurant not in the cards.

The standard rooms at the hotel are spacious and most of them have a water front view.  At check-in, the hotel staff attempted to sell us an upgrade to a suite with an additional cost, actually doubling the price of our existing reservation, we kindly turned the offer down.

Day 2

The resort has stations where you can get rides either by golf carts or bicycle from/to you room as this is a fairly big resort. I’ve heard many stories that visitors taking the bicycles to explore the resort and to the beach and I decided to give it a try. The handles of the bicycle span about 2 ft apart and there’s only one hand brake and a pedal brake, neither of which worked very well. It wasn’t very easy for me to maintain balance riding the bike and I fell while trying to avoid a collision with an oncoming golf cart. The friendly hotel staff rushed to help me get up from the ground.  That was really nice…I fled the scene with a bruised knee and a bruised ego…

Dinner at El Puebilito

Dinner was amazing, coupled with excellent ambience for the best experience in Cancun. Local Mexican mariachi band performances provided an added vibe for the occasion. A vast variety of stalls were set up including a place for grilled shrimp and spicy octopus, a fajita station where fresh tortillas were prepared and chicken/beef tacos served, a salad bar with the best grilled butter corn I’ve tasted, chips and salsa stations with different kinds of salsa sauce, churros station, ice cream, and staff walking around offering tapas for tasting. What a wonderful night!!!
